Hi all,

I’d like to share my experiences of my first three months writing mostly programming articles on Medium.

Firstly I should say that I don’t have a lot of time to devote to writing. I am a family man first and foremost, and a career man secondly. I don’t, however, own a TV and I’ve long thrown away my Netflix subscription. For better or worse, my time for reading books has also been reduced to two to five minutes before lights out at bedtime. At best, I get a couple hours four or five nights a week to write.

The purpose of this article is not to teach you how to write articles, how to market them, or how to earn money. I merely write this to detail my experience to date as a means of showing you what you might expect if you take it up as well.

I am by no means an expert on Medium, nor writing in general, and I am not earning anywhere near the types of money that you might find in some other “how to” articles, but my earnings have increased quite dramatically since I started approximately three months ago. The following shows my earnings from February to halfway through May.

I’ll share with you every story I’ve written, the ‘story’ behind each story, their stats, and their earnings.

Let’s take a look at my stories.

February 2020 — giving it a go

My first story was actually not related to programming, but about superannuation. I’d been researching the best ways to handle superannuation for my own knowledge at the time, and wanted to share my findings with family and friends. It was easier for me to write it…
